Outset or Onset?

Hello everyone, it has certainly been a while! Again, with this second blog, I would like to introduce few words that I've come across and grabbed my attention. Before I start I would like to stress once again the importance of learning new words. This could be in any language, not just English of course. I believe by using the right word we would not only reduce misunderstandings, that could come from any ambiguity attached to the word, but it also add colours to our speeches and…

Do you remember your first crush?

Let me be clear from the outset, I'm not talking about crush as in 'to squeeze or press something so hard that it breaks.' What I want to talk about is something that is a little more romantic. What I want to refer to is:

Crush (noun) =  a strong feeling of love for…

Hi Tyrant.

I'm doing well thanks. I'm back in England at the moment. I'm looking for a new job but I'm not sure where I'll end up next. It's nice that you still have time to pop in and say hello and I'm always ready to help you if you need it. Work won't always be so busy, I'm sure. We usually reminisce about or over something.

Tyrant,

Your article is extremely well written. I enjoyed reading your blog. There are some minor mistakes but they don't really detract from the narrative of your passage. For example:

  • stirred a mixed feelings inside me - should read - stirred mixed feelings inside me

I understand how difficult it is to get back into grammar, especially when you already have a comprehensive grasp of the English language.  You say you enjoy reading - this is one way to improve your grammatical skills without "studying". By reading books in the English language you'll find you start making fewer of these little errors. What books (in English) do you enjoy reading?

I look forward to reading more of your writing.

Hi Tyrant,
We are very happy to see you here on Funky English! Welcome to our community. Your writing is very good, especially for someone who doesn't learn grammar! Do you read a lot of English books? I can't find your writing on Tumblr, can you send me a link? I'll be happy to check it out!

If you want to practice your writing try and get involved on our forum. If you feel confident you could also write a blog for us on Funky English, maybe about how you learnt to write in English so well!

Nice to meet you.
