I have to agree with this.  The english language actually has a lot of words that correlate with one another which makes it a bit tricky if you want to mean this but comes out differently because you used an improper word. And open and turn is just a good example for it.

It has been used awfully a lot of times though we have very little hold over it already.

Word correlations are often a confusing subject for students. It's difficult to know exactly which words go together in different situations. It's something that people learn through reading or listening to native speakers. Are you an English student Gary? 

No I am not an English student.

What difference " Turn on or Switch on " ?  We can use both of them on electrical equipment ,right ? 

 

There is no real difference. You can turn on or switch on electrical equipment.
