Hi teacher jamie...?
:)

Can I use this slang for people who spend their time sit in front of computer/notebook/handphone to play games or to chat with facebook? They looked like people who have their own world and has no time to do other activity and chat to others.
In Indonesia, we call them "autism". This effect make new phrasa "technology closer to people who are long distance but keep away who are near you"

thanks

Hi Ika!

That's a very good question. We could certainly use this slang for someone lying on the couch playing computer games or on their phone. It wouldn't be correct if someone was sat at a desk using the PC, or using the phone while walking or at a restaurant. It's really just a lazy person sitting on a sofa!

I like your phrase too. People spend so much time on their phones these days that sometimes the forget the people next to them! I have seen 4 people in a restaurant together spending all their time on their phones. I'm not sure what slang we would use for people like this, can you think of anything?

Thank you teacher jamie

Now, I understand how and when to use this slang

Me: Joko! Let's go to swimming pool.
Joko: .......
(No answer. He is sitting in the sofa playing his handphone and use earphone)
Me: Joko. You are couch potatoe

Maybe we need to earn new slang to call someone who always playing her handphone when close with others. It is new habit, isn't it?
If we call him "autism", it will be not polite...maybe he will be angry. Hehe :-D

This is a new habit. How about a phone head? An i-addict?

I can't think of one that is commonly used!

In Vietnam, we also call them like that. (It is used by students).
