I just realised that I get annoyed when some phrases become popular. The first one is "pot, kettle, black ". This is a popular short form of "the pot calling the kettle black".
Joe: "You are useless at drawing"
Pete: "Talk about the pot calling the kettle black, you cannot even hold a pencil properly"
The form, that seems to be popular now, that annoys me is:
Joe: "You are useless at drawing"
Pete: "Pot, kettle, black comes to mind"
Another annoying popular phrase is
"What part of 'Do not talk' do you not understand?"
Any others?

The pot calling the kettle black is a great idiom. I might use that as our next idiom of the week!
I can't think of any more annoying phrases... but I'll keep my ears open.

We must clean up after ourselves going forward.
A very annoying phrase...
In Australia, instead of "how are you doing?", they use "how you going?" which is not annoying really, but doesn't make sense.

I don't know if I've ever heard going forward in that sense. Is it a new one?
Big ask, yes - office speak!

Permalink Reply by tyrant leviathan on July 14, 2011 at 5:07 Don't know if it's annoying, but just curious...
The phrase "null and void", doesn't these two words mean somewhat the same thing?
