Very nice examples Vero! I like as happy as a puppy. I wish we could all be as happy as puppies!

These are also interesting similes from Indonesia. It's so interesting to learn about how different cultures use English in similar ways. We would say in English - As cunning as a fox. Why are mouse deers viewed as cunning animals? The fox is cunning because it sneaks around in the dark and eats chickens!

As callous as a rhino and As inconsistent as a chameleon are very easy to understand. We don't use them in English - but perhaps we should.

when i was child, i like this fable so much. vero... you make me check it out in internet. hoho...
mouse deer became a cunning animal because it can beat tiger and crocodile by lying it's predator.
in actual, it is hard to catch this animal because having skill to run agile and nimble.

1) I have seen an animal simile on FE: As busy as a bee.

2) I love this question:

- As long as a snake.

- As cute as a pup.

- As cruel as a poisonous snake.

- As cold as a reptile. (The reptiles are cold-blooded animals)

...

3) In my language, there are many animal similes:

- As fierce as a tiger.

- As slow as a turtle.

- As fast as a squirle.

- As tought as a buffalo.

- Eat as much as a pig.

Thanks Blue! Some great similes. You have a good imagination. As cute as a puppy is very nice. Puppies are always cute and happy.

We would probably say as fierce as a lion in English. Tigers are pretty fierce too!

As fast as a squirrel and as tough as a buffalo are nice and easy to understand. I am always impressed how strong and stubborn the buffalo is. In English we have a saying as stubborn as an ox. The ox is very similar to the buffalo.

Very nice Una!

We use as slippery as an eel quite often in English. It's a popular simile. Have you ever tried catching an eel? It's impossible. A very good simile. 

Politicians often change their colours! They can be both as slippery as an eel and as inconsistent as a chameleon.

As foolish as a pig is an interesting simile. Do you think pigs are foolish? They just eat all day and bathe in mud. That sounds like a great life!

Hi Blue&Vero...not see U all very long time...

In indonesia we have;
- as large as an elephant (it is bigger than pig)
if we say you are as small as an elephant, it show that we are teasing him/her.
- as small as an ants
- don't be shy like a cat
it is mean that don't pretend to be embarrassed to do something whereas want to do that.
For example when someone offer food to us than we say "no" in the first time and in the next few minute we eat the food...it show we are as shy as a cat

I like the saying as shy as a cat. You've described it very well. In English we would just say don't be shy.

You simile as small as an ant is similar in English, but we say people far away look as small as ants.
